Snap Inc, the company behind Snapchat, is exploring various ways to get around Apple’s upcoming tracking rules, reports the Financial Times.
According to internal documents, Snap plans to look at using data from third-party companies to analyse how many users have reacted to advertising campaigns. By cross-referencing that data in relation to its own information, it should be possible to identify and track users.
There are already reports that several Chinese companies are considering similar methods. But Snap is the largest American company to be looking into this strategy.
Snap itself has confirmed to the Financial Times that it has been testing a similar system for several months to test the impact of Apple’s new rules. However, Snap says it plans to shut down the system when ATT is released.
The company insists that it knows it cannot track users without their permission, but says it is able to collect group data without breaking the rules.
