New Apple Products Coming In October 2020

October is now upon us and as we count down to the end of the year (a year which we can’t wait to see the back of) we look at what Apple is still to launch, and what we can expect to see this month.

We’ve already had Apple’s September event, but this year rather than unveil new iPhones at the event, as is Apple’s tradition, the company just took the wraps off new iPads and new Apple Watches. As a result we are still awaiting the launch of the new iPhone 12 – anticipated to launch in October. Read more about the next Apple Event here.

We know that a new iPhone is coming because Apple revealed (in a conference call following its financial results announcement in July) that the new iPhone is delayed. Apple’s chief financial officer Luca Maestri told investors: “Last year we started selling new iPhones in late September, this year we expect supply to be available a few weeks later.”

So it’s pretty clear that new iPhones are coming soon, but that’s not all. Here’s what we think Apple will launch in October 2020.

iPhone 12 x 4

There are four new iPhone models expected: 5.4in iPhone 12 mini, 6.1in iPhone 12 Pro, 6.1in iPhone 12 Max and a 6.7in iPhone 12 Pro Max.

We expect the iPhone 12 to be announced at an event on 13 October 2020.

Apple TV

Apple is apparently ready to launch a new Apple TV. In fact, it seems that the company has been ready to ship is since May (see the tweet from Job Prosser below), so we’re not sure what the delay is although there are reports that the new Apple TV could rival games consols

Games Controller

Speaking of Apple TV, there’s also a rumour (sorry, it’s Jon Prosser again, there are other leakers) that suggests that Apple’s planning to launch its own games controller. If it does this could make the Apple TV a more attractive gaming platform. We expect this to launch alongside the Apple TV.

HomePod

There have been rumours that Apple will update the HomePod – or at least launch a smaller and cheaper version. We could see this in October – launching a music related product a launch alongside the iPhone seems to make sense, although the company could hold it back for next spring. AirPods

Speaking of audio, another product that could put in an appearance alongside the iPhone 12 models is a new pair of AirPods.

In fact we are anticipating more than one new pair of AirPods – a cheaper version of the AirPods Pro – known as AirPods Lite, or the AirPods Studio (over ear headphones).

Back in May 2020 Prosser tweeted that new AirPods would be coming soon.

That can’t have been all that soon, given that five months later we are still waiting, but it’s certainly possible that we could see some new AirPods before Christmas.

Silicon Mac

Apple’s said that it will launch its first Apple Silicon powered Mac before then end of 2020 so it is possible we could see Apple unveil this new Mac at the October event.

This wouldn’t be the first time that Apple has unvelled a new Mac at an October event, but normally Apple wouldn’t do so alongside iPhones. Although, perhaps this year it will do so to emphasise the fact that the new Mac will share the processor architecture with the iPhone.

Read about the first Silicon-powered Mac – which we expect to be a new MacBook – here.
